 UNIVERSAL SET TO OPEN 'BEETHOVEN' ON APRIL 3
 UNIVERSAL CITY, March 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Universal Pictures will


open "Beethoven," starring Charles Grodin, nationwide on April 3.
 Grodin stars as George Newton, a very tidy man who never dreamed his family would ever own a dog -- until a St. Bernard named Beethoven, 185 pounds of love, devotion, courage and drool, appears and changes their lives and the upholstery on their furniture forever.
 Also starring in "Beethoven" are Bonnie Hunt as Alice, the wife of George and the mother of their three children; Dean Jones as the villainous veterinarian, Dr. Herman Varnick; Oliver Platt and Stanley Tucci as dognappers Harvey and Vernon; and Nicholle Tom as Ryce, Christopher Castile as Ted and Sarah Rose Karr as Emily, the Newton children.
 An Ivan Reitman Production of a Brian Levant Film, "Beethoven" is executive produced by Ivan Reitman and written by Edmond Dantes and Amy Holden Jones. The film is produced by Joe Medjuck and Michael C. Gross and directed by Brian Levant.
