UNIVERSAL PICTURES ANNOUNCES THREE MAJOR RELEASES FOR YEAR END: 'SCENT OF A WOMAN,' 'LORENZO'S OIL' AND 'TRESPASS' UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., Nov. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Academy Award nominees Al Pacino, Susan Sarandon and Nick Nolte are at the top of their craft in two highly anticipated motion pictures from Universal Pictures for the holiday season, "Scent of a Woman" and "Lorenzo's Oil." Rounding out Universal's year-end releases is the urban action- adventure "Trespass," starring Bill Paxton, Ice-T, William Sadler and Ice Cube. Multi-Academy Award nominee Pacino stars in the comedy/drama "Scent of a Woman," which will open in limited release on Wednesday, Dec. 23. Pacino stars as Frank Slade, a blind, irascible, retired lieutenant colonel who teaches a scholarship student (Chris O'Donnell, "Men Don't Leave") the importance of living life to the fullest during a weekend spree in New York. The film is produced and directed by Martin Brest ("Beverly Hills Cop," "Midnight Run") from a screenplay by Bo Goldman. Executive produced by Ronald L. Schwary, "Scent of a Woman" will open nationwide on Friday, Jan. 8. Academy Award nominees Nolte and Sarandon star in "Lorenzo's Oil," which opens on Wednesday, Dec. 30, in limited release in Los Angeles, New York and Toronto, expanding on Jan. 15. Based on a true story, the film chronicles Augusto and Michaela Odones' faith, courage and triumph as they stand up to the establishment and discover a medicine that keeps their dying son alive. The film is dedicated by George Miller (the "Mad Max" trilogy, "The Witches of Eastwick"), who drew upon his experience as a medical doctor in writing the screenplay with Nick Enright. "Lorenzo's Oil" is produced by Miller and Doug Mitchell. In addition to the "Scent of a Woman" opening on Dec. 23, Universal will open Walter Hill's ("48 HRS.," "The Warriors") urban suspense adventure, "Trespass," nationwide. Written by Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale, "Trespass" is about two rural firemen (Paxton and Sadler) who, while searching for stolen loot in an abandoned East St. Louis tenement, cross paths with local crime lords (Ice-T and Ice Cube).
