 UNIVERSAL HOSPITAL SERVICES ANNOUNCES SECOND QUARTER EARNINGS
 BLOOMINGTON, Minn., Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Universal Hospital Services, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: UHOS) today reported earnings for the second quarter of $649,749, or $0.16 per share, a 126 percent increase over net income of $287,015 or $0.05 per share for the same period a year ago. For the six months ended June 30, 1992, net income increased 124 percent to $1,614,528 or $0.40 per share, over net income of $721,825, or $0.14 per share last year.
 Net income in the 1992 periods is net of extraordinary expenses associated with retirement of the company's senior subordinated note in mid-June using a portion of the proceeds from the company's initial public offering.
 Total revenue for the second quarter was $12,178,420, with rental revenues showing a 12.9 percent growth over the same period in 1991. For the six month period, total revenues increased to $24,880,161, with rental revenues showing a 15.3 percent increase over the same period.
 Thomas A. Minner, president and chief executive officer, said "We are pleased with our financial results for the second quarter and first half of 1992. We believe that our Full Service, Pay-Per-Use Equipment Management Services continue to be responsive to the cost containment pressures in the current health care and regulatory environments."
 Universal Hospital Services, Inc. completed a 1,700,000 share initial public offering on June 9, 1992 and sold an additional 255,000 shares upon exercise of the underwriters' overallotment option on July 9, 1992.
 Universal Hospital Services, Inc. provides movable medical equipment through "pay-per-use" equipment management programs to hospitals and various other health care providers. The company currently operates through 32 district offices and eight regional service centers, serving customers in 34 states.
