UNIVERSAL HEALTH SERVICES, INC. ANNOUNCES SALE OF FLORIDA HOSPITAL

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa., Oct. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Universal Health Services, Inc. (NYSE: UHS) announced today that it has sold Doctors' Hospital of Hollywood in Hollywood, Fla.
The sale of the 124-bed licensed facility is part of UHS's continuing strategy to improve the performance and quality of its hospital portfolio.
"The sale of Doctors' Hospital provides UHS with an opportunity to continue to strengthen our hospital portfolio," stated Alan Miller, president and chairman of UHS. "The capital that is now available to UHS will be put to work, as the company continues to pursue its growth strategy by acquiring profitable facilities in major markets and by constructing and acquiring ambulatory surgery centers and radiation treatment centers."
Transitional Hospitals Corporation (THC), based in Atlanta, provided a cash payment for Doctors' Hospital approximately equal to its book value. THC said it plans to convert the facility into a long term sub acute care hospital.
The sale of Doctors' Hospital of Hollywood represents a continuation of UHS's strategy to sell lower performing facilities and invest in facilities producing higher returns. In keeping with this philosophy, UHS has sold or closed a number of hospitals over the past several years and has acquired eight ambulatory surgery centers in the past 14 months.
Universal Health Services is a hospital management company which owns and operates 14 acute care and 13 psychiatric hospitals and 12 ambulatory surgery and radiation therapy centers nationwide. It acts as the advisor to Universal Health Realty Income Trust (NYSE: UHT), a REIT.
