UNIVERSAL AMERICAN MORTGAGE COMPANY IMPLEMENTS HURRICANE RELIEF PROGRAM
MIAMI, Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Universal American Mortgage Company, a subsidiary of Lennar Corporation (NYSE: LEN), has implemented a special nine-point Hurricane Relief Program to assist its mortgage customers in the areas hardest hit by last week's hurricane.
The program was designed to provide immediate relief to borrowers by deferring regular mortgage payments, waiving late fees and other special service fees, refunding fees on refinancing applications and a variety of other types of support for homeowners victimized by the storm.
Steven J. Saiontz, president of Universal American, said staff members have been working overtime since the hurricane, both on the phone and on-site at damaged communities to answer homeowner questions, help with insurance problems, advise on making claims and arranging for home repairs. Universal American has also circulated flyers to homeowners with information about making insurance claims.
"We have committed up to $3 million for this program, which we hope will assist homeowners begin the restoration process. Along with mortgage payment deferrals and other financial relief, we're finding that homeowners need information as much as any other type of help," he said.
"We hope this program will let our customers know that we are 100 percent behind them and that we want very much to help them protect their homes.
"Many of our own employees have been hurt by this catastrophe, and there's nothing we want to do more than help people get back on their feet," Saiontz said.
Borrowers can obtain more information about the Universal American programs by visiting special Lennar Help Centers at Lakes by the Bay and Deerwood in South Dade, or by calling 305-559-3068.
