 UNITOR SELLS ADDITIONAL OILBAGS
KOLBOTN, Norway, Sept. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Unitor Ships Service AS

(UNITOR) closed negotiations with a privately owned Singapore company sponsored by the Malaysian oil industry for the purchase of two additional 200 cubic meter (cum) oilbags for a total price of NOK 1.5 million ($250,000), it was announced today by Karsten Houm, managing director. Delivery of the oilbags is scheduled for year-end 1992.
"The main feature of the UNITOR oilbags is its lightweight and small volume which allows for transport onboard relatively small boats or by helicopter. The bags, together with two previously delivered, play a key role in the development of the oil spill contingency plan for the Malakka Strait and the west coast of Malaysia," Houm said. "One of the two previously delivered oilbags was sold to the current buyer," he added.
The UNITOR oilbag, invented by Viggo Amundsen of Norway, is made with a very thin plastic cover. The bags flexibility, coupled with its lightweight, allows for ease of handling, operation and storage. The soft-walled container can collect oil either from water surface skimming or from leaking oil tanks. The oilbags are available in sizes from 50 cum to 20,000 cum. To date, UNITOR has sold a total of five oilbags.
"We are seeing a rising level of interest in our oilbags from the oil tanker industry, and believe that this bodes well for increased sales in 1993," Houm commented. "For example, we expect further sales to the Malaysian oil industry, although not necessarily to the same buyers," he said.
UNITOR supplies high-quality chemicals and related equipment to the international merchant fleet of over 23,000 vessels. It has been listed on the Olso Stock Exchange since 1978.
