UNITED WASTE SYSTEMS ANNOUNCES THE ACQUISITION OF THREE SOLID WASTE COMPANIES

 GREENWICH, Conn., Jan. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- United Waste Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: UWST) announced today that it completed the acquisition of three solid waste companies located in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts.
 On Dec. 30, 1992, United Waste completed the acquisition of Able Sanitation, Inc., a solid waste collection business located in Grand Rapids, Mich. Able Sanitation is the largest privately owned solid waste collection company in metropolitan Grand Rapids and has annual revenues of approximately $11.1 million.
 On Dec. 29, 1992, United Waste completed the acquisition of Kelly Run Sanitation, Inc., a solid waste landfill and collection company located in Elizabeth, Pa. Kelly Run has annual revenues of approximately $9.1 million.
 On Dec. 31, 1992, the company completed the acquisition of Rotti's Rubbish Removal, Inc., a solid waste collection company located in West Boylston, Mass. Annual revenues are approximately $900,000. This "tuck-in" acquisition will be integrated into United Waste's existing operations in Massachusetts and is consistent with the company's strategy to expand in the attractive north-central Massachusetts solid waste market. As previously announced, United Waste acquired Ray's Trucking Service, Inc. located in Fitchburg, Mass. on Dec. 18, 1992.
 In addition, United Waste has entered into a non-binding letter of intent to purchase a solid waste collection company located in one of United Waste's service areas. Annual revenues are approximately $1,500,000. The purchase is subject to the satisfactory completion of due diligence by United Waste, as well as other normal closing conditions.
 United Waste Systems, Inc. provides integrated solid waste management services to residential, commercial and industrial customers in seven states. On Dec. 31, 1992, United Waste employed 396 employees and owned or operated 12 landfills located in Michigan, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, West Virginia and Mississippi. United Waste completed an initial public offering of 3,000,000 shares of common stock underwritten by PaineWebber Incorporated and Alex. Brown & Sons Incorporated on Dec. 10, 1992. The company is actively pursuing additional nonhazardous solid waste acquisitions in selected markets.
