 UNITED RETAIL GROUP ANNOUNCES JUNE 1992 SALES INCREASE 28 PERCENT
 ROCHELLE PARK, N.J., July 9 /PRNewswire/ -- United Retail Group, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: URGI) today issued the following sales results for June 1992:
 Total sales of United Retail Group, Inc., for June 1992 were $34.0 million compared to $26.6 million in June 1991, a 28 percent increase. Comparable store sales for the month increased 9 percent.
 Comparable store sales for June increased in the mid-teens for Sizes Unlimited, the strip-based stores, and increased in the low single digits at the mall-based stores, The Avenue.
 Year-to-date total sales for Fiscal 1992 were $132.8 million, a 15 percent increase, compared to $115.5 million last year. Year-to-date comparable store sales for fiscal 1992 increased 7 percent. (February is the first month of the company's fiscal year.)
 Average store inventories, at month end, were on plan. Merchandise margins for the month were very strong.
 Raphael Benaroya, chairman of the board, president and chief executive officer, announced that the opening of stores using the 16 Plus trade name was ahead of schedule. Benaroya said: "The sales results at the 16 Plus stores continue to be encouraging." Of the 95 stores acquired, 46 have been opened and the remainder are scheduled to open before Aug. 1, 1992.
 With respect to future operations, United Retail signed a service contract with Integrated Systems Solutions Corp. (ISSC), a subsidiary of IBM, for the outsourcing of computer hardware and systems software. United Retail will continue to develop and maintain the applications software at its headquarters. George R. Remeta, executive vice president and chief financial officer, commented: "United Retail's new relationship with ISSC assures us access to state-of-the-art hardware, systems software and communications networks. With ISSC at our side, United Retail will remain committed to cutting edge information technology."
 United Retail runs retail chains devoted to large-size women's clothing. The chains are composed of Sizes Unlimited, which has 233 stores; The Avenues, which has 155 stores; and 16 Plus, which has 95 stores.
