UNITED NURSES OF ALBERTA VOTE IN FAVOUR
EDMONTON, Oct. 02 /CNW/ - Members of the United Nurses of Alberta have voted overwhelmingly in favour of accepting a new collective agreement with the Alberta Hospital Association. 100 percent of the Locals and 97.7 percent of the members voting, voted in favour of ratification of the June 27, 1992 Memorandum of Agreement. The two-year contract provides nurses with a salary increase of 3 percent retroactive to April 1, 1992. A further increase of 1.5 percent will take place February 1, 1993. The two parties also agreed to a contract provision regarding the transfer of staff between health care facilities.
The ratification settles negotiations for 108 hospitals and 13,000 nurses. The Alberta Hospital Association ratified the contract in July.
Negotiations for the 1,200 nurses at the Royal Alexandra Hospital broke down in August. The Local has proposed job protection wording equivalent to that obtained by nurses in 108 other hospitals in Alberta. No further bargaining dates have been set.
United Nurses of Alberta represents more than 14,000 nurses in hospitals, nursing homes, health units and auxiliary hospitals throughout Alberta.
