UNITED LAUNCHES NEW WASHINGTON-MILAN-ROME SERVICE JUNE 20
CHICAGO, June 18 /PRNewswire/ -- United Airlines will establish the only non-stop air link between Washington, D.C., and Italy, when it launches service Saturday, June 20, between the U.S. capital and Milan, with continuing service to Rome. It is United's first scheduled service to Italy.
"This new service represents the addition of two of the world's great cities to our global route network," said United Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Stephen M. Wolf. "With Milan and Rome, United will now serve 14 cities in nine European countries.
"United is committed to bringing a high level of competition and service to the U.S.-Italy market," he added. "By connecting Milan and Rome with our hub at Washington Dulles International Airport, we will provide travelers with non-stop connections to 61 cities throughout the United States."
United will offer U.S.-Italy service six days a week initially. The flights will operate every day except Monday eastbound and Wednesday westbound. Daily service will start Oct. 25.
Eastbound, Flight 970 will depart Washington Dulles International Airport at 6:55 p.m. and arrive at Milan's Malpensa Airport at 8:50 a.m. the following day. Continuing service departs Milan at 10 a.m. and arrives at Rome's Leonardo Da Vinci/Fiumicino Airport at 11:10 a.m.
Westbound, Flight 971 departs Rome at 9:50 a.m. and arrives in Milan at 11 a.m. The flight departs Milan at 12:10 p.m. and arrives at Washington Dulles at 3:10 p.m.
Throughout the summer, United will serve the market with Boeing 747 aircraft, configured with 18 seats in first class, 70 in Connoisseur Class and 305 in economy class. Boeing 767-300ER aircraft, with 14 seats in first class, 40 in Connoisseur Class and 154 in economy class, will be used during the winter months.
The new trans-Atlantic service between Washington and Milan represents the sixth European city served non-stop from United's gateway at Washington Dulles International Airport. United also flies non-stop from Dulles to Brussels, Frankfurt, London, Madrid and Paris.
In addition to its new airport operations in Milan and Rome, United currently has sales offices in both cities, a city ticket office in Rome, and will open a city ticket office in Milan later this summer.
To celebrate the inauguration of Washington-Milan service, United will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 20 in Concourse C at Dulles before the flight departs. In conjunction with the Italian Government Tourist Office, United also will provide customers with a special buffet reception at international gates C1 through C4 in Concourse C beginning at 5 p.m.
