UNITED ENGINEERING, INC. WINS $55 MILLION CONTRACT TO DESIGN & INSTALL HIGH-SPEED SPECIALTY STEEL PLATE AND SHEET PROCESSING SYSTEM

 PITTSBURGH, March 15 /PRNewswire/ -- United Engineering, Inc. announced today that Lukens Steel Co. (NYSE: LUC), manufacturer of steel plate products headquartered in Coatesville, Pa., has retained the firm to design, manufacture, install and start up a Steckel Mill at the Lukens facility in Conshohocken, Pa., near Philadelphia.
 United will utilize its construction division, United International Construction Company, for the construction phase of the contract.
 The Steckel Mill will be designed to produce coiled strip, coiled plate and discrete plate in carbon, alloy and stainless steels to worldclass tolerances. The mill will include such features as hydraulic gauge control, roll bending, roll shifting, water wall cooling and an advanced automated control system supplied by General Electric (NYSE: GE).
 A United Engineering, Inc. company spokesman stated, "By investing in cutting-edge technology, Lukens is positioning itself to remain a leader in a global steel market that is showing signs of resurgence."


Pittsburgh-based United Engineering, Inc. is a division of United Engineering and Foundry Co., founded in 1901. United Engineering designs, engineers, markets and builds hot and cold rolling mills, bar rod and structural mills and ancillary mill equipment. The firm also provides project management and construction engineering services.
