UNITED DOMINION TO ACQUIRE EUROPEAN PUMP MAKER
DELDEN, The Netherlands, Nov. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- United Dominion

Industries (NYSE: UDI) today signed an agreement to acquire Bredel B.V. from Bredel Beheer B.V. A leading maker of peristaltic hosepumps used in a variety of fluid handling applications, Bredel operates one plant here and markets its products around the world. Terms of the transaction, which will be concluded at year-end, were not disclosed.
Bredel will become part of United Dominion's Waukesha Fluid Handling Division and provide a European base for distribution and service of the Waukesha rotary pump lines, which complement Bredel's products in diverse markets.
"The acquisition of Bredel broadens our product line offerings in world pump markets where Waukesha is already the recognized leader in rotary positive displacement products," William R. Holland, chairman and chief executive, said.
"Bredel holds a strong position in peristaltic pump markets overall and represents new growth opportunities for one of our core businesses," he said.
The unique patented hose in the Bredel hosepump makes it suitable for a wide range of applications in many different industries, varying from bilge water on ships to toothpaste, detergents and sewage sludge.
Founded in 1962 by Jan. W. Gerritsen, Bredel annual sales currently total about US$8 million and the company employs approximately 50 people.
"The union of Bredel and Waukesha is a logical extension of the long-time marketing relationship between the two companies," said Ton van den Bos, who will continue to serve as Bredel's managing director.
Waukesha has marketed the Bredel hosepump in North and South American since 1979, and Bredel has introduced the Waukesha pump to numerous European distributors.
United Dominion, a diversified manufacturing, construction and engineering company, has two other major European business units. BOMAG, the world's leading manufacturer of compaction rollers for soil, asphalt and landfill applications, is headquartered in Boppard, Germany, with operations in Austria, France and Great Britain. Paris-based Litwin, S.A. provides a wide range of petro-chemical and energy engineering services for clients throughout Europe.
