UNITED AMERICAN HEALTHCARE EXPANDS TO TENNESSEE

DETROIT, Oct. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- United American Healthcare Corporation (NYSE: UAH) announced it has established a subsidiary, UAH-Tenn., to manage Affordable Healthcare Corporation, a new Tennessee- based preferred provider organization (PPO).
Affordable will furnish medical benefits to Medicaid recipients in Memphis, Nashville, Chattanooga and Jackson.
Affordable also will participate in the new, mandatory Tennessee healthcare program called TennCare, which currently is awaiting Healthcare Financing Administration (HCFA) approval.
Affordable will be one-third owned by UAH and the balance by local participants.
"UAH's share of the capital investment for the new plan will be approximately $750,000," according to Julius V. Combs, M.D., chairman. "It is our best estimate that a return for UAH will be forthcoming in about a year from the time enrollment commences."
"We feel the prospects are very good based on the fact that there are approximately 400,000 Medicaid eligibles in the four cities who will be required to participate in the Medicaid program," he said. "When TennCare is approved, the eligible population is expected to increase by approximately 50 percent to about 600,000."
"Affordable management expects to commence operations before year- end 1993," Dr. Combs said.
UAH, a health care management company, provides a full range of managed care services for health maintenance organizations (HMOs), PPOs and others.
