UNITED AMERICAN HEALTHCARE CORPORATION: COUNTYCARE PROGRAM WILL BE RENEWED

 UNITED AMERICAN HEALTHCARE CORPORATION:
 COUNTYCARE PROGRAM WILL BE RENEWED
DETROIT, Dec. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- United American Healthcare Corporation (NASDAQ: UAHC) today said that Tuesday night's legislative action by both Michigan's House and Senate means that Wayne County's
CountyCare program will continue through Sept. 30, 1992. Julius Combs,

M.D., chairman and chief executive officer, said United American has been notified of the program continuation by Deborah Scott, director of Patient Care Services for Wayne County.
"We feel that the continuation of this very important program is virtually assured by the $51 million-plus funding voted by the Legislature, although the bill still awaits the signature of the governor," said Dr. Combs. "The vital nature of this program has been underscored by the willingness of Wayne County to assume funding on a monthly basis since the contract expired on Sept. 30.
According to Scott, the program, which has been extended on a month- to-month basis from Sept. 30, 1991, through Dec. 27, 1991, will be continued for the last four days of December and through the end of the state's fiscal year on Sept. 30, 1992. Discussions regarding alternative funding beyond that date have already begun.
"The financial effect on UAHC should be at least equal with the past year or years," said Dr. Combs. "We expect that the number of participants -- about 14,000 -- will remain the same, and we don't know yet if the basic payment per individual (capitation rate) will increase.
"This is positive news for UAHC because we are marketing similar services to governmental units outside of Wayne County, and the success of CountyCare gives us a good demonstration model in building additional business for the company," said Dr. Combs.
"This action underscores governmental recognition that managed care can contain expense by helping people keep their health, rather than try to improve on cases where neglect has caused more serious problems," Dr. Combs concluded.
United American Healthcare Corp. is a health care management company. In addition to the CountyCare contract, UAHC provides a full range of services to two health maintenance organizations -- OmniCare Health Plan in Southeast Michigan and Personal Physician Care of Ohio, based in Cleveland.
