UNITED AMERICAN HEALTHCARE CORP. SIGNS LETTER OF INTENT WITH WASHINGTON, D.C.-BASED HMO

DETROIT, Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- United American Healthcare Corporation (NASDAQ: UAHC) today said it has signed a letter of intent for a joint venture with a Washington, D.C.-based Health Maintenance Organization, CapitalCare. CapitalCare is a subsidiary of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of the National Capital Area.
United American will initiate a program to enroll and manage health care for Medicaid recipients in the District of Columbia, operating under a sub-contract from CapitalCare. The agreement calls for a cooperative effort to enter into a contract with the District of Columbia and develop a provider network.
"The District of Columbia is mandating that all Medicaid recipients be enrolled in a managed care program by late spring," said Julius V. Combs, UAHC chairman. "Our timing is right, and we have the experience to handle this business in a profitable, efficient manner. This clearly fits with our strategy of capitalizing on our experience in providing quality health care to the Medicaid population.
"We would like to make the point that the District of Columbia still must determine program details, such as the enrollment procedures. We estimate there are about 125,000 Medicaid eligibles, and we expect several other health care contractors to be operating in the area," Dr. Combs said.
CapitalCare currently has about 115,000 enrollees.
United American Healthcare Corp. is a health care management company. UAHC provides a full range of services to two health maintenance organizations -- OmniCare Health Plan in Southeast Michigan and Personal Physician Care of Ohio, based in Cleveland. The company's strategy is to expand its expertise into avenues such as Third Party Administrator services as it has done with Detroit's Bing Group.
