UNITED AIRLINES TRAFFIC INCREASES 17.1 PERCENT
CHICAGO, Aug. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- United Airlines today reported that

its total scheduled revenue passenger miles (RPMs) increased 17.1 percent in July compared with the same month of 1991.
Available seat miles (ASMs) grew by 11.5 percent, resulting in a 3.7 point increase in load factor to 76.4 percent.
In commenting on July performance, J.C. Pope, president and chief operating officer, said, "Domestic traffic continues to be very strong as many customers take advantage of the significantly reduced excursion fares. Unfortunately, these fares will result in lower domestic average yields when compared with a year ago.
"On the international side, we have increased capacity 35 percent year-over-year to where it now represents 37 percent of our system capacity. July international traffic was softer, however, than we originally anticipated due mainly to weak economic conditions around the world."
The airline's total scheduled RPMs were 9,555,107,000 compared with 8,156,555,000 in July 1991.
For July, domestic revenue passenger miles totaled 6,216,401,000, a increase of 12.5 percent from 5,525,584,000 accumulated in July a year ago. Latin American revenue passenger miles totaled 318,422,000, an increase of 881.2 percent from 32,453,000.
