UNITED AIRLINES SEPTEMBER TRAFFIC INCREASES 18.4 PERCENT
CHICAGO, Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- United Airlines today reported that its total scheduled revenue passenger miles (RPMs) increased 18.4 percent while available seat miles (ASMs) grew by 11.0 percent in September compared with the same month of 1991. The scheduled passenger load factor was 71.6 percent compared with 67.1 percent a year ago.
"We are quite pleased with the 4.5 percent increase in our September system load factor compared with a year ago," said J.C. Pope, president and chief operating officer. "Low excursion fares in our domestic markets along with strong post-Labor Day demand in the trans-Atlantic market were the primary drivers of the traffic performance," he said. Pope noted, however, that Pacific demand is soft, reflecting weakness in the Japanese economy, and that the systemwide low-fare environment continues to be troubling.
The airline's total scheduled RPMs were 8,410,448,000 compared with 7,104,065,000 in September of 1991.
For September, domestic revenue passenger miles totaled 5,270,767,000, an increase of 17.0 percent from 4,503,875,000 accumulated in September a year ago. Latin American revenue passenger miles totaled 267,583,000, an increase of 965.9 percent from 25,104,000.
