UNITED AIRLINES RESPONDS TO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION DECISION ON BA-USAIR CODE SHARING

CHICAGO, March 15 /PRNewswire/ -- United Airlines Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Stephen M. Wolf urged the British government to respond to U.S. government approval today for British Airways-USAir code-share flights by ending unfair restrictions on U.S. carriers serving the United Kingdom.
"United is disappointed that approval for this code-share arrangement gives British Airways substantial access to the U.S. market without any reciprocal opportunities for U.S. carriers," Wolf said.
"Today's decision by the U.S. government to limit the authority granted to British Airways to one year will test the U.K. government's true desire for liberalization of the air transportation agreement," Wolf added. "We urge U.K. Secretary of State for Transport MacGregor to move quickly to create an open skies agreement that allows carriers from both countries to compete on an equal basis."
