UNITED AIRLINES REDUCES FARES TO HAWAII
CHICAGO, Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- United Airlines announced today it

will reduce fares between the Mainland and Hawaii an average of 30 percent for travel this fall. "Hawaii is a very important vacation market to United Airlines," said J.C. Pope, president and chief operating officer. "We carry 2.4 million passengers between the Mainland United States and Hawaii each year with more than 68,000 weekly seats.
"United is determined to assure that Hawaii remains a very affordable and desirable vacation destination in light of recent fare reductions that have occurred within the continental United States as well as to competing leisure destinations in Europe and the Caribbean."
United said the new round-trip fare between Chicago and Honolulu will be reduced to $489 from the previous fare of $730. The Portland (Ore.)-Honolulu fare will be reduced to $369 from $428, Denver-Honolulu to $489 from $690 and New York-Honolulu to $569 from $720.
The new low fares are good for travel every day of the week and will be available in over 800 markets. Fares to the Outer Islands of Hawaii (the Big Island), Kauai and Maui will be slightly higher than fares to Honolulu.
The fares must be purchased 14 days in advance and no later than Aug. 31, 1992, for travel between Sept. 14 and Dec. 14, 1992. The fares are capacity-controlled and are nonrefundable. Other restrictions apply.
Fares between major U.S. West Coast markets and Hawaii were reduced previously. The lowest fares between San Francisco, Seattle and Los Angeles and Honolulu are $289 and have slightly different ticketing and travel restrictions.
