UNITED AIRLINES PLANS NEW SERVICE TO EUROPE
FROM CHICAGO O'HARE AND WASHINGTON DULLES NEXT SUMMER
CHICAGO, Aug. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- United Airlines announced today it plans a significant expansion of its European service beginning June 9, 1993, with new non-stop service to and from Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and Zurich, Switzerland; and, beginning Aug. 1, 1993, to Glasgow, Scotland.
The new non-stop flights will operate from Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, United's largest domestic hub airport, and Washington, D.C.'s Dulles International Airport, United's principal gateway to Europe.
From Chicago's O'Hare, the new nonstop flights to Amsterdam will supplement United's current schedule of non-stop European service between O'Hare and both Frankfurt and Paris.
From Washington's Dulles Airport, the new non-stop flights to Amsterdam, Glasgow and Zurich will supplement the carrier's current schedule which includes non-stop European service between Dulles and Brussels, Frankfurt, London, Madrid, Milan/Rome and Paris.
"Our new non-stop flights to Amsterdam and Zurich will add the convenience of flying non-stop across the Atlantic to and from these destinations which we presently serve on a one-stop basis," said Stephen M. Wolf, United chairman and chief executive officer.
"Our new non-stop flights to Glasgow will mark United's first service to Scotland," he added. United currently provides scheduled service throughout North America, South America, Asia, Australia and Europe.
"Demand for United's service between the United States and Europe has been gratifyingly strong since our inaugural flights to Frankfurt and Paris just two years ago," Wolf said. "Our Atlantic traffic performance has risen more than 100 percent this year compared with 1991 results."
The new non-stops to Amsterdam and Zurich will be open for sale on Saturday, Aug. 22; service to Glasgow will open for sale once all necessary government approvals are in place. This is expected to occur shortly.
