UNITED AIRLINES OFFERS MORE CUSTOMIZED SERVICE FOR INTERNATIONAL FIRST CLASS PASSENGERS

CHICAGO, Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- United Airlines will make its First Class service more personalized when it introduces several new enhancements to its international First Class product Oct. 1, 1993.
"Strong feedback from First Class customers and international flight attendants alike tells us that First Class customers want more customized service when they fly across the Atlantic, the Pacific or to Latin America," said James M. Guyette, executive vice president- marketing and planning.
Accordingly, Guyette said, United will respond by adding new features to its exclusive international First Class product that will make air travel services more personalized to the needs of each United First Class customer:
-- At check-in United has created a new service for airline customers. Called First Class Reception (SM), the carrier will place an attractive display board at First Class check-in locations with each First Class passenger's travel documents prepared in advance of their arrival and presented in a specially designed travel folio by United's concierge.
-- United's inflight service will also become more customized with an eye toward letting the traveler better manage time spent in flight. The new service allows international First Class travelers to design their own flight experience, choosing when they would like to wake or sleep during their flight, when they would like to have their meals and how they would like their meals presented.
For example, the customer can select United's elegant dinner service, served at a leisurely pace by course. Alternatively, customers may now opt for an Early Seating (SM) dinner which offers all of the courses served at one time on most overnight flights.
-- For breakfast on an overnight flight, the customer will also have more choices, specifying whether to be awakened 90 minutes before landing for a full gourmet breakfast, 45 minutes ahead for a continental breakfast or not at all.
-- For additional comfort, United is offering larger pillows that measure a full 19 by 13 inches. Coupled with expansive sleeper seats and compact disc audio entertainment, all elements are present for rest and relaxation aloft.
These new services are being added to United's already well-known international First Class product which features Dom Perignon champagne, Beluga caviar, concierge service, priority bag delivery, pre-departure beverage service and premium food and beverages.
"Our research indicates that 75 percent of international travelers are flying on business," Guyette said. "We know that many control their time in the businesses they run. Now on United they can exercise greater control over their time in flight. We are confident they will appreciate these service enhancements."
