 UNITED AIRLINES NAMES SPEICHER SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT-HAWAII
 CHICAGO, April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- United Airlines today announced the creation of a senior-level position with dedicated responsibility for the Hawaii market, naming William C. Speicher senior vice president- Hawaii. Speicher, an Oahu civic leader and resident, served as senior vice president of the airline's Pacific Division since 1988.
 "This appointment reaffirms United's long-standing commitment to the Islands and our desire to expand there," said Stephen M. Wolf, United Airlines chairman and chief executive officer. "Bill Speicher is superbly qualified to assume this new responsibility. His leadership in the Pacific, his familiarity with Hawaii, and his more than 25 years of experience with United single Bill out as best qualified to lead United's operations there."
 As senior vice president-Hawaii, Speicher will be responsible for all airport, sales and reservations operations on the Islands. He reports to United's president and chief operating officer, J. C. Pope.
 Since joining United in 1966, Speicher has held a number of management positions, including senior vice president and general sales manager from 1987-88, senior vice president and general manager for United's Eastern Division from 1981-87 and senior vice president- marketing from 1978-81. Speicher joined United as a trainee in the company's management training program.
 Speicher graduated from the University of Maryland in 1961 with a bachelor's degree in transportation administration. A former captain in the U.S. Air Force, he now serves on the Civilian Advisory Group to the Commander-in-Chief of the Pacific Air Force and on the board of directors for the Hawaii Visitors Bureau and the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii and is a member of the Hawaii Business Roundtable.
 Speicher and his wife reside in Honolulu.
