UNITED AIRLINES LAUNCHES SERVICE TO BRAZIL AND ARGENTINA
FROM NEW YORK AND MIAMI; BOEING 747S SERVE BOTH ROUTES
CHICAGO, Jan. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- United Airlines' scheduled service to Brazil and Argentina begins tonight when the carrier launches flights linking New York's Kennedy International Airport and Miami International Airport with Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Connecting service will allow passengers originating in New York or Miami to continue on United to Sao Paulo, Brazil, or Buenos Aires, Argentina.
"Flights between the United States and Brazil and Argentina will form the backbone of United's scheduled service to South America," said Stephen M. Wolf, chairman and president. "Our employees are ready to introduce United's special brand of international customer service refined over more than five decades to the many thousands of travelers and shippers who depend on these major international air routes to meet their transportation needs."
The new Brazilian and Argentinean routes are part of a package of international route authorities between the United States and Latin America that United is acquiring from Pan American World Airways for $135 million through the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York. While final permanent approval is pending with the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), the DOT granted United emergency authority to begin service on these routes.
United started service Jan. 15, 1992, between both New York Kennedy and Miami to Caracas, Venezuela, with continuing service between Caracas and Port of Spain, Trinidad.
