UNITED AIRLINES DECEMBER TRAFFIC INCREASES 5.4 PERCENT

 CHICAGO, Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- United Airlines today reported that its total scheduled revenue passenger miles (RPMs) increased 5.4 percent while available seat miles (ASMs) grew by 4.2 percent in December compared with the same month of 1992. The scheduled passenger load factor was 63.8 percent compared with 63.1 percent a year ago.
 "The small increase in our system load factor reflects the slowly improving trend in our business worldwide," said United Airlines President and Chief Operating Officer J.C. Pope. "Our best performance entirely has been Latin America, where we have experienced a significant improvement in load factor for both the month of December as well as for the year as a whole."
 The airline's total scheduled RPMs were 7,977,127,000 compared with 7,570,979,000 in the same month of 1992.
 For December, domestic revenue passenger miles totaled 4,995,651,000, an increase of 5.7 percent from 4,727,817,000 accumulated a year ago. Pacific revenue passenger miles totaled 1,843,161,000, an increase of 0.1 percent from 1,842,091,000 a year ago. Atlantic revenue passenger miles totaled 696,045,000, an increase of 14.0 percent from 610,333,000 a year ago. Latin American revenue passenger miles totaled 442,270,000, an increase of 13.2 percent from 390,738,000.
 Total scheduled available seat miles (ASMs) were 12,511,302,000, up 4.2 percent from 12,001,718,000 a year ago. Domestic ASMs were 8,082,907,000, an increase of 4.3 percent from 7,752,688,000 a year ago. Pacific ASMs totaled 2,655,723,000, up 2.6 percent from 2,587,661,000 a year ago. Atlantic ASMs totaled 1,061,845,000, up 13.8 percent from 932,927,000. Latin ASMs totaled 710,827,000, a decrease of 2.4 percent from 728,442,000 a year ago.
 The airline flew 5,521,000 passengers in scheduled service in December, an increase of 2.2 percent from 5,400,000 flown a year earlier.
 Total cargo ton miles for December were 177,992,000, up 12.8 percent from 157,808,000 a year ago.
 Total RPMs including charter flights for December were 8,003,099,000, up 5.6 percent from 7,579,555,000 a year ago.
 JANUARY THROUGH DECEMBER TRAFFIC
 For the year, total scheduled RPMs increased 9.2 percent to 100,992,089,000 from 92,488,297,000 in 1992.
 Total scheduled ASMs increased 9.6 percent to 150,408,412,000 from 137,210,558,000 for the same period last year.
 Passenger load factor for the year was 67.1 percent, down 0.3 points from 67.4 percent in 1992.
 Total cargo ton miles were 2,005,555,000, an increase of 16.1 percent from 1,727,261,000 last year.
 Total RPMs including charter for the year were 101,257,610,000, an increase of 9.2 percent from 92,689,527,000 in 1992.
