UNITED AIRLINES BEGINS NON-STOP SAN FRANCISCO-SHANGHAI SERVICE
CHICAGO, July 2 /PRNewswire/ -- United Airlines announced it will become the first U.S. carrier to offer non-stop service from the United States to the People's Republic of China with the inauguration tomorrow of service three days a week between San Francisco International Airport and Shanghai International Airport, with continuing service to Beijing.
"Our new service will link Shanghai -- the world's sixth largest city and a major commercial center in the PRC -- with our Pacific gateway in San Francisco," said Stephen M. Wolf, United's chairman and chief executive officer. "From San Francisco, United offers customers convenient connections to more than 40 North American, European and Latin American destinations."
United will operate the new flights with Boeing 747 aircraft -- Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays from San Francisco, and Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from Shanghai -- through September, when the flight will resume operations via Tokyo. United has served Shanghai and Beijing through Tokyo since 1986.
