UNITED AIRLINES AND ALM ANTILLEAN AIRLINES ENTER MARKETING PACT

CHICAGO, Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- United Airlines announced today it has entered into a comprehensive marketing agreement, including code sharing (subject to government approval) and frequent flier mileage benefits, with ALM Antillean Airlines, a scheduled carrier serving various Caribbean destinations from its base in Curacao, Netherlands Antilles.
"This agreement envisions a wide range of improved services for travelers using the combined services of United and ALM for flights between the United States and points in the Caribbean and South America," said James M. Guyette, executive vice president - marketing and planning. "We look forward to implementing the details of the program and to a close and productive relationship with this fine carrier."
"This agreement is an important step for our airline and for the tourism industry of the Antillean islands as it enhances our reach into the U.S. market," said Kitland Chong, ALM's president. "The most attractive incentive for the United customer is the accrual and redemption of miles for the Mileage Plus program on each of ALM's flights that carry the UA designator. We most definitely look forward to a close and beneficial collaboration with such a high quality carrier as United Airlines."
As part of the expanded relationship, selected ALM flights from Miami will carry the UA airline code to make the connections easier to find in computerized reservations systems. The program will open for sale Oct. 2, 1993 (subject to government approval), and the first flights will operate Dec. 1, 1993. The key transfer point will be Miami where the two carriers' route systems come together. ALM's destinations served from Miami are Curacao, Aruba, Bonaire and Haiti.
United operates scheduled non-stop flights to Miami from such U.S. points as Chicago; Denver; Houston; Los Angeles; New York; Orlando, Fla.; Philadelphia; San Francisco; and Washington.
Among elements of the marketing program are these:
-- Improved scheduling. The two carriers will coordinate their schedules to maximize convenient connections at all shared gateways.
-- Preferential display. The carriers will arrange the best preferential display for all connecting flights in computerized reservations systems.
-- Fully automated one-stop check-in. The carriers will provide passengers the convenience of checking into any United, United Express or ALM airport ticket counter and receiving seat assignments, boarding cards, document checks and Mileage Plus credit as appropriate for their United, United Express and ALM flights.
-- Seamless transfer. The carriers will expedite the orderly transfer of passengers and bags from one airline to the other through coordination of their respective customer and baggage service departments.
-- Joint promotion. Mileage Plus frequent flier mileage accrual and redemption will be available on ALM. The two carriers will work together to communicate, advertise and promote the improved joint services to the traveling public via travel agents and reservations sales offices.
