UNITE HERE: Concessions workers challenge Airmall management model at BWI Airport.

BALTIMORE -- After enduring eight years of Airmall's management at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport, food and retail workers along with allies across Baltimore are standing up together to make a change. Hundreds of workers are asking Airmall and the Maryland Aviation Administration to commit to fixing the concessions program at BWI, which has created low-income jobs with few if any affordable benefits for Baltimore residents. Last week, 75 people visited Airmall's offices at BWI to present their Bill of Rights. More details about this action have been published HERE by the Baltimore Sun, and HERE by the Baltimore Brew (includes images).

BWI concessions workers are expected to continue to voice their concerns to Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley and other government officials at various hearings and meetings during the current Maryland legislative session. They will also seek to share their knowledge about what they regard as the failures of Airmall's model with industry stakeholders and decision-makers at other airports across North America.

If you have any questions or would like further information about Airmall's operations, please contact Bhav Tibrewal at the UNITE HERE Airport Group, at (646) 313-5408.

UNITE HERE is the union for travel hospitality workers, representing 30,000 airport workers at 69 airports across the U.S. and Canada. UNITE HERE-represented airports serve 80% of U.S. airline passengers and generate over $3 billion in annual concessions sales.
