UNIT TRUSTS ISSUE $667.7 MILLION IN JUNE, ACCORDING TO ICI

 WASHINGTON, Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Unit Investment Trusts, investment companies that purchase fixed portfolios of selected bonds or stocks, increased their deposits through offerings in June of $667.7 million for a total of $4.62 billion in 1993, compared with $4.26 billion for the first six months of 1992, according to statistics compiled by the Investment Company Institute.
 Tax-free bond trusts issued shares in June with deposits of $365.2 million, for a total of $2.52 billion in 1993, compared with $2.44 billion the first six months of 1992. Shares issued by taxable bond trusts reached $177.3 million in June for a total of $873.2 million in 1993, compared with $1.10 billion for the same period in 1992. Deposits to equity trusts totaled $125.2 million in June, for a year-to- date total of $1.23 billion, compared with $727.7 million through June of 1992.
 There were 64 new tax-free bond trusts issuing shares in June, eight new taxable bond trusts, and seven new equity trusts.
 In terms of maturity, long-term bond trusts with an average weighted maturity of more than 15 years were the most commonly offered in June with $365.0 million in shareholder deposits.
 1992 YEAR-END TOTALS
 Data on the market value of unit trusts issued and outstanding at the end of 1992 indicates a total of 13,598 unit trusts with a market value of $97.9 billion. According to reports of 17 sponsors, there were a total of 12,623 tax-free bond trusts representing a year-end 1992 market value of $81.47 billion, 745 taxable bond trusts representing year-end 1992 market value of $9.98 billion, and 230 equity unit trusts reporting year-end 1992 market value of $6.48 billion.
