UNIT COMPANIES TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL LOGISTICS SERVICES FOR J.I. CASE
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Nov. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- The Unit Companies, one of the nation's largest providers of third-party logistics, has reached an agreement to provide North American parts distribution for J.I. Case, an international manufacturer of heavy equipment such as farming and construction machinery. This decision is part of Case's overall strategy to better utilize resources and make changes in its North American parts distribution to increase efficiency, improve customer service levels and lower its breakeven point.
Effective immediately, Case is implementing a plan with UNIT to outsource operations at its parts depots in Atlanta, Ga.; Columbus, Ohio; Dallas, Texas; Philadelphia, Penn.; and Toronto, Ontario. Case also is reviewing the feasibility of outsourcing its remaining North American depots and will announce its decision when that review is completed.
According to Richard M. Christman, Case's senior vice president, sales and marketing - North America, UNIT was chosen after a year-long assessment of Case's current and future needs, and careful evaluation of the expertise of several candidates.
"We have firsthand experience with UNIT at our Receiving Materials Center in Bloomington, Ill.," said Christman. "UNIT has repeatedly demonstrated its ability to meet tough goals. We believe that its advanced technology for operations of this type will not only assure continuity of service to our dealers and customers, but will also enable us to significantly improve our service over the long term."
Under Case's agreement with UNIT, Case will retain control of and financial responsibility for the parts inventory at these depots. Case also will set the standards for service levels, service hours, turnaround times and other critical service functions.
"We are pleased to have demonstrated to Case our collective strengths in distribution, transportation and information systems," said William S. Elston, president and chief executive officer, The Unit Companies. "This unique combination of capabilities permits UNIT to differentiate itself as an integrated logistics solution specialist."
