UNISYS RANKS FIRST IN JAPANESE CUSTOMER
SATISFACTION SURVEY FOR SECOND STRAIGHT YEAR
BLUE BELL, Pa., Nov. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- For the second straight year, Nihon Unisys Limited (NUL), the joint venture of Unisys (NYSE: UIS) and Mitsui & Company Ltd., ranked first in customer satisfaction in a survey of Japanese computer users by Nikkei Computer magazine, it was announced today.
The 8th General Computer User Census, published in October 1991 by Nikkei Business Publications, Inc., surveyed users of Fujitsu, Hitachi, IBM, Mitsubishi, NCR, NEC and Unisys mainframe computers.
Unisys received the highest score in 10 of 11 categories measured by the Nikkei survey: hardware, operating software, ease of use, batch processing, online processing, transaction processing, cost performance, software technical support, and product information. In hardware maintenance service, Unisys ranked second by 1/10th of a point. The survey scores ranged from one to five, with five representing the highest possible score.
The survey also reported a composite score of total satisfaction, in which Unisys received a 3.9 -- 3/10ths of a point higher than the next highest ranking vendor in the survey.
"To earn top marks in the prestigeous Nikkei survey even one time is considered a tremendous achievement," said Ed Blechschmidt, president of the Unisys Pacific Asia Americas Division. "To do that for two consecutive years is an indication of the strength of the customer commitment that is shared by everyone on the Nihon Unisys team. It also speaks to the clarity of vision that NUL's senior management brings to the leadership of this team.
"The Nikkei survey's results tell us, as well, that our Japanese customers see the success Unisys is achieving through continuing efforts to improve product quality," Blechschmidt said.
Initiatives taken by Unisys to establish high product quality levels include using computer-aided design (CAD) simulations to evaluate designs at each developement stage, Environmental Stress Screening (ESS), statistical process control (SPC) and other advanced design and manufacturing concepts.
Nihon Unisys Ltd. is the fifth largest information systems company in Japan, with a customer base of more than 6,000 installation sites. Unisys is a leading supplier of commercial information systems and related services. Unisys has 60,000 customers in more than 100 countries.
