UNISYS AND AT&T EASYLINK SERVICES TO CO-MARKET UNISYS EDI SOFTWARE
UNIX-based application integration software for electronic data
interchange becomes AT&T EasyLink Services' first EDI software
offering for open systems environment; AT&T EDI VAN services
 complement and extend EaDIplus solution
BLUE BELL, Pa., Dec. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS) and AT&T (NYSE: T) EasyLink Services today announced they have signed an agreement to co-market Unisys Easy access Data Interchange plus (EaDIplus) software.
AT&T EasyLink Services will recommend the Unisys software to customers who need to integrate existing applications with Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) through an open systems platform. This is AT&T EasyLink Services' first co-marketing agreement for software specifically designed for the UNIX System V open systems environment.
AT&T EasyLink Services will co-market the EaDIplus software to complement AT&T EDI, a value added network (VAN) service for the computer-to-computer exchange of business documents in a standard format, such as purchase orders, invoices and remittance data.
"AT&T chose Unisys as an EDI partner because Unisys offers an unusually strong combination of product quality and support services," said Gerry Sarmiento, AT&T EDI product director. "The EaDIplus software is unique in its support for multiple EDI and networking standards and its ability to leverage the flexibility of the UNIX operating environment. It provides a strong addition to AT&T's range of third- party EDI software offerings."
Unisys EaDIplus and AT&T EDI combine to deliver fully standards- based EDI for flexibility and future growth Unisys EaDIplus software and AT&T EDI services both adhere to international and North American standards for electronic data interchange and multivendor networking. This allows transparent routing of critical business information among multivendor host and client systems running in diverse operating environments.
Running on the Unisys U 6000 Series of UNIX-based computer systems, EaDIplus works as part of an open systems architecture. EaDIplus completely automates EDI processes, including scheduling, communications, application integration, data mapping, auditing and translation services. The translator codes the document for the chosen EDI standard (e.g., ANSI X12, EDIFACT, and others) and packages it for the communications standard (e.g., X.400) used by the value added network over which it will be transmitted.
EaDIplus manages the customer's EDI environment. It surrounds host- based applications with server communications and EDI functionality, relieving the customer of the expensive and time-consuming task of modifying the host applications for EDI.
AT&T EasyLink Services brings another dimension to EaDIplus, allowing the system to access a VAN implementing the OSI/CCITT X.400 messaging standard, which is rapidly emerging as an international standard for networked communications.
According to J. Carl Masi, Unisys vice president, corporate marketing, "Working with a VAN carrier of AT&T's stature and proven excellence brings a whole new dimension to EaDIplus. Unisys, with AT&T, can now deliver full EDI solutions, encompassing hardware, application integration software, and communications services. This cooperative relationship also enables both Unisys and AT&T to expand our repertoires of EDI services."
AT&T EDI highlights Unisys Pilot Program
Unisys has also announced the EaDIplus Pilot Program for customers considering an EDI implementation. Under the program, Unisys will provide all the hardware, software, training and services a prospective customer needs to implement electronic data interchange with a selected trading partner. AT&T will provide EDI network service. Unisys will assign a project manager to coordinate activities and monitor progress throughout the 60-day program.
