UNIQUE MOBILITY ANNOUNCES THIRD QUARTER RESULTS

GOLDEN, Colo., Sept. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Unique Mobility Inc. (AMEX: UQM) reported an operating loss for the quarter ended July 31, 1993, of $593,458 or 6 cents per share on total revenue of $610,467. This compares with an operating loss of $495,619 or 7 cents per share on total revenue of $739,127 for the year earlier period. The company's nine month operating loss was $1,745,897 or 20 cents per share on total revenue of $1,895,956 versus a loss of $1,294,491 or 19 cents per share for the comparable fiscal 1992 period.
Speaking from the Frankfurt International Motor Show, Ray A. Geddes, chairman and chief executive officer, stated that third quarter operations were essentially on plan. "Compared to the year earlier period," Geddes said, "we tripled our investment in product development, doubled shipments of hardware and made great headway in grooming our products for the marketplace.
"As a result," Geddes added, "Unique now stands alone as the world leader in high power, high efficiency permanent magnet motor technology -- evidenced by BMW's continued adherence to the company's traction drive as the system of choice for the new E-1 series just presented here in Frankfurt."
Included in BMW's new E-1 series is an innovative hybrid electric model which combines a four cylinder, 850cc engine from the BMW K1100 motorcycle with Unique's 32kW vector controlled synchronous motor with permanent magnet exitation. "With the hybrid option," continued Geddes, "we are no longer dependent on advances in battery technology as the sole driver of the commercialization process. While BMW has yet to reveal details of its production plan, the question now is not if, but when. And history has shown that when BMW leads, others will surely follow."
Unique is a Golden-based engineering concern and manufacturer of high efficiency, high power, permanent magnet electric transmission systems for BMW and other automotive customers. Unique, in association with BMW and ABB Asea Brown Boveri Ltd. will soon begin commercial distribution of its state-of-the-art electric vehicle traction system to the automotive industry worldwide.
