UNION TEXAS PETROLEUM ANNOUNCES PROMOTIONS IN ITS EXPLORATION AND PRODUCTION OPERATIONS

 HOUSTON, July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Union Texas Petroleum (NYSE: UTH) today announced three promotions in the company's worldwide exploration and production operations.
 Mr. Bruce S. Hamilton has been named director-land, where he is responsible for developing and implementing the company's Alaskan land activities, managing current Union Texas land assets and working with senior management on exploration strategies and objectives. Mr. Hamilton began his career with Union Texas in 1980 as a senior landman and has held positions of increasing responsibility in the company's exploration and production operations, most recently serving as land manager for U.S. operations. Prior to joining Union Texas, he worked for General Crude Oil Company and Texaco. Mr. Hamilton holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Southwest Texas State University and a law degree from the University of Houston. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the Houston and American Association of Professional Landmen.
 Mr. Arn G. Hoffman has been named director-production engineering, where he is responsible for engineering support and technical quality control for all of the company's international oil and gas production activities, well completions, testing programs, workovers and facility design and construction. Mr. Hoffman began his career with Union Texas in 1977 as a petroleum engineer and has held positions of increasing responsibility in the company's international operations, most recently serving as manager- operations and production. Prior to joining Union Texas, he worked for Texaco Exploration Canada Limited. Mr. Hoffman holds bachelor's degrees in chemistry and chemical engineering from the University of Saskatchewan. He is a Registered Professional Engineer and a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
 Mr. Sheldon (Buddy) Watsky has been named director-reservoir engineering, where he is responsible for the company's reservoir engineering support and technical quality control for all of the company's international oil and gas activities including reserve reporting, reservoir evaluations, field development planning, and improved recovery techniques. Mr. Watsky began his career with Union Texas in 1989 as manager-reservoir engineering. Prior to joining the company, he worked for Tenneco Oil Company. Mr. Watsky holds bachelor's and master's degrees in petroleum engineering from Louisiana State University. He is a member of the Society of Professional Engineers and the American Petroleum Institute.
