UNI-SOLAR PV SYSTEM POWERS HABITAT FOR HUMANITY HOME.
The project is a coordinated effort in response to Governor Schwarzenegger's solar initiative to dramatically increase the use of residential solar energy throughout California. Participants in the project include Sacramento Habitat for Humanity, the California Environmental Protection Agency's Air Resources Board, Sacramento Municipal Utility District, and United Solar Ovonic LLC. Habitat for Humanity staff and volunteers assisted with the installation.
At times when the PV system produces more energy than needed by the homeowners, excess electricity will automatically be directed back into the grid through the utility's Net Metering Agreement, at which time the meter will spin backward and offset the home's overall utility bill.
Other photovoltaic projects are underway with Habitat for Humanity and home developers throughout the state. Increasing the use of building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) solar systems serves to benefit everyone by lowering energy bills, providing renewable distributed energy generation, and reducing air and water pollution.
United Solar Ovonic LLC is a leading manufacturer of BIPV systems that are both roofing and solar electricity generators in a single product.
