UNESCO to provide protectorship over III World Nomad Games.
President Sooronbai Jeenbekov received Sabira Soltongeldiyeva, Executive Secretary of the National Commission of the Kyrgyz Republic for UNESCO, reported the President's Office.
Soltongeldiyeva briefed the President on the work and plans of the National Commission to promote national values and said that UNESCO will provide protectorship over the Third World Nomadic Games.
In addition, the traditional equestrian game kok-boru has been inscribed in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Mankind.
"The patronage of UNESCO will contribute to raising the status of the World Nomad Games in the international arena. It is a great achievement, pride and victory for all Kyrgyz people. In previous World Nomad Games, we showed the world community the national Kyrgyz game kok-boru, made it famous and recognizable all over the world. Kok-boru is a game of the ancient Kyrgyz nomadic people, who preserved it through the ages from generation to generation. Once I played this game, it is very dynamic and exciting," the president emphasized.
He thanked the Secretariat of the National Commission for fruitful work.
The epic trilogy "Manas, Semitei, Seitek", the art of akyns, the art of making felt carpets ala-kiyiz, shyrdak, traditional knowledge and skills of making nomad tents, the art of improvisation aitysh , the culture of cooking breads lavash, katyrma, jupka, yufka, Nooruz, kok-boru have been inscribed in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
Among the objects in the UNESCO World Heritage List are Sulaiman-Too Sacred Mountain, medieval fortifications of Chui region: Burana, Ak-Beshim, Red River, Western Tien Shan.
Kyrgyzstan now seeks to include ak kalpak, a traditional Kyrgyz male hat, petroglyphs of Saymaluu-Tash into the list.
