UN to help Kyrgyz Government with announcement of national platform for natural disaster risk reduction.

The coordination meeting of partners involved into natural disasters preparedness and response took place on Wednesday in Bishkek.The main goal of the given even was to review the results of the collaborative project run by the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and the United Nations Organization, to explore the developed natural disasters response coordination mechanism, and to discuss further actions under the project. The event was held at the initiative of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in cooperation with the UN Office in the Kyrgyz Republic.The coordination meeting was necessitated by termination of the first phase of the collaborative project in February 2010 and continuation of natural disaster risk management in the Kyrgyz Republic, as well as further strengthening of the natural disaster response coordination mechanism and providing support to the Government with announcement of the national platform for natural disaster risk reduction.The discussion of the further areas of actions allowed to identify priorities of the next project, to increase effectiveness and coordination of actions of partners in preparedness, response and management of natural disaster risks.
