The Organising Committee of the 13th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (UNCCPCJ) on Saturday conducted an introductory seminar to promote the event and disseminate its message to the public.

The congress will be held at Qatar National Convention Center from April 12 to 19.

"With the evolution of crime over years, the UNCCPCJ has discussed the different forms of crime and criminal justice issues over its course, including money laundering, cyber crime, human trafficking, corruption and border-crossing crimes.

"For almost two years, Qatar has been preparing to host this Congress, which is expected to have 6,000 to 7,000 delegates participating, to ensure that this year's UNCCPCJ is a successful one," the Ministry of Interior's (MoI) Director of Public Relations and Organising Committee Member Colonel Abdullah Khalifa al Muftah said.

He added,"Besides hosting the event, Qatar will be an active participant in the upcoming Congress with a number of discussions and recommendations regarding the post-2015 development agenda and other criminal justice related issues."

Five days before the Congress, Muftah said, Qatar will organise the Doha Youth Forum as an initiative to engage young people in topics related to the congress.

"The forum will be discussing the same issues on the Congress's agenda and the suggestions and the recommendations of the participating students will be submitted at the UNCCPCJ," Muftah said, adding that more than 120 students from 25 countries will be participating in the forum.

Muftah said that the Organising Committee is also hosting a drawing competition targeting students in 4th to 7th grade and 8th to 12th grade, in coordination with different schools in the country, where participants are encouraged to express their perceptions of the Congress and its related criminal justice issues through their drawings and paintings.

The deadline for submissions is March 17.

To involve members of the community as active participants in the UN Congress, the Organising Committee said that it would welcome questions, suggestions and comments via different media channels, including the MoI's official website for the congress (www.MoI.gov.qa/UNCCPCJDoha), the event's Official Page on Facebook (Facebook.com/UNCCPCJDoha2015) and Google Plus (Goo.gl/5m9kOZ).

The Organising Committee said that smart phone applications for the Congress would be available on the iOS and Android platforms in order to keep the public informed and updated about the Congress in a timely manner.

According to Muftah, an exhibition would also be held on the sidelines of the event, where community heads and members can participate in a number of related discussions.
