ULTRAMAR APPOINTS VICE PRESIDENT-TREASURER, VICE PRESIDENT, TAXATION, AND DIRECTOR OF INFORMATION SERVICES AND CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER

 GREENWICH, Conn., Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Ultramar Corporation (NYSE: ULR) today announced the appointment of Richard J. Neville as vice president and treasurer, Robert H. Steinfeld as vice president, taxation, and Fred W. Almy as director of information services, and chief information officer.
 Richard J. Neville has joined Ultramar's Greenwich office. Mr. Neville spent the last seven years as vice president and treasurer of Lone Star Industries, Inc. He also has a wide range of treasury experience with Colgate Palmolive Company, Crane Company and General Host Corporation.
 Robert H. Steinfeld has also Ultramar's Connecticut office. Mr. Steinfeld previously held the position of vice president -- taxes at GAF Corporation. Prior to that, he was a partner and head of the tax department of the law firm of Webster & Sheffield.
 Fred W. Almy will be working in Ultramar's Long Beach, Calif. office and will be primarily responsible for administering the company's outsourcing contract with Systemhouse. Mr. Almy has over 25 years of MIS and accounting experience including senior MIS positions with Exxon, Enron, EDS and Apache Corporation.
 Ultramar Corporation is a petroleum refining and marketing company which operates in California and in Eastern Canada through two subsidiaries. In 1992, the company sold over 250,000 barrels per day of refined petroleum products and had total revenues of $2.6 billion.
 Ultramar Corporation was formed in April 1992, to acquire Ultramar Inc. and Ultramar Canada Inc. from Ultramar PLC, a British company, and its former subsidiaries. Ultramar Corporation acquired these businesses with monies raised from an initial public offering of its common stock and the issuance of long-term senior notes. The common stock of Ultramar Corporation (ticker symbol: ULR) began trading on the New York, Toronto and Montreal stock exchanges on June 26, 1992. The company employees approximately 3,300 people.
