ULTRA-WHEELS INTRODUCES THE 'ULTRA INTEGRATED FRAME' IN-LINE SKATE SERIES; THE FIVE NEW IN-LINE SKATE MODELS ARE MADE IN THE USA

MINNEAPOLIS, April 12 /PRNewswire/ -- First Team Sports, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: FTSP), manufacturer of Ultra-Wheels(R) in-line skates and related accessories, introduces the "Ultra Integrated Frame" in-line skate series. The new line of skates, featuring five in-line models proudly made in the United States will be available to ship to retailers in April 1993.
The "Ultra Integrated Frame" in-line skate series includes five skate models ranging from performance level to mid-range recreational level. All of the models feature a state-of-the-art integrated boot and frame molded in Minnesota from lightweight Ultra-Plus(TM) material. The boot design includes air accepting vents for circulation and cool comfort, and a pivoted tendon collar for ankle flex and support. The boot's high strength integrated frame features four wheels per frame for all skate sizes 3-13. The wheels, also made in the United States, are mounted with non-marking, rink friendly flush mount hardware. The boot's comfortable, foam padded, breathable liner is made domestically as well.
A Just-In-Time manufacturing system will be utilized to manufacture the five new skate models. "Assembling the skates in Minnesota with the major components made in the USA will enable First Team Sports to quickly respond to our customer's needs while maintaining the best product value in the in-line skate industry," said Dick Schaper, the company's director of operations. "In addition, by manufacturing and sourcing materials domestically for the skates, we will be creating many new jobs throughout the USA. First Team Sports' commitment to 'Made In America' is the strength behind the Ultra Integrated Frame skate series. 'Made In America' symbolizes quality to customers in the U.S. and around the world."
Uniquely, First Team Sports has managed to price the new skates at extremely competitive price points, a challenge to many companies when manufacturing and sourcing products domestically. "You won't find another line of in-line skates, domestic or foreign, with these quality components at such great prices," said Susan Niles, the company's director of marketing.
