ULSTER-born ITN newsreader Andrea Catherwood yesterday tied the knot with her legal eagle lover, The People has learned.

She said 'I do' in at a secret ceremony in at St Patrick's Church of Ireland in Kenmare, Co Kerry, in front of invited family and friends.

Andrea, 34, from Belfast has been dating 36-year-old Gray Smith for a year and a half.

The pair met during a holiday on the exotic Cayman Islands.

But she didn't want to wait when he popped the question during another break in Co Clare.

"Why wait when you know you want to spend the rest of your life with someone?" she has said.

News girl Andrea initially thought of getting married near her family home near Holywood.

But she and her dashing lover opted instead to a service down south.

The wedding will doubtless prove to be the highlight of a memorable period in her life.

As ITN's high profile International Correspondent she was injured last November in Afghanistan.

A surrendering Taliban fighter had blown himself up.

And although bleeding from a shrapnel wound, she continued reporting from the scene.

The shrapnel wound, like her wedding ring, will be reminders of this period of her life forever.

Gray said that he had already wanted to marry her, but proposed soon after she came home from the front.

"It wasn't because she had been injured," he said.

"I already knew she was precious."

LOVE: Gray and Andrea
