UK warship's Channel vigil on Russians.

Byline: CHRIS HUGHES Defence and Security Editor

A BRITISH destroyer has shadowed two heavily armed Russian warships as they moved through the Channel.

HMS Diamond, a Type 45 destroyer, was deployed from Dover amid height ened tension with Moscow to monitor the ships as they passed along the coast toward the Atlantic.

Destroyer Severomorsk and missile cruiser Mar- shal Ustinov were ret- urning to duty after Russian Navy Day events.

UK relations with Russia remain strained as investi gators continue to probe the Salisbury novichok nerve agent attack.

Commander Ben Keith said his Portsmouth-based destroyer was "proud to be playing her part in protecting the UK".
