UK midmarket manufacturers are cool on e-commerce claims report.

TELECOMWORLDWIRE-(C) 1994-9 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD Midmarket manufacturers in the UK are not desperate to implement e-business capabilities according to a survey by Symix, a Customer Synchronised Resource Planning company. Of the midmarket manufacturers surveyed by the group only 11% said that they thought e-commerce was the most important factor in determining manufacturer's success after Y2K.

Complementary to this finding only 39% thought that an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system should have electronic trading capabilities while 35% said e-commerce was unimportant and 25% indicated they had not considered the option as part of their ERP system. Midmarket UK manufacturers do, however, consider customer satisfaction important with 40% of respondents ranking excellent customer service and 26% ranking the ability to deliver on time as their two most important assets. This trend was also followed in the criteria for selecting an ERP, with 96.5% indicating that the ability to improve customer service and on-time delivery was important in choosing an ERP system.
