UK breakaway is a matter for the Scots; LETTERS.

NEVILLE Layhe''''s thoughts on the people of Scotland (Daily Post, Dec 2) being given an opportunity to decide the future of their nation might have had greater resonance if his home thoughts from abroad so to speak had been mitigated and their negativity been tempered by at least the positive nature of the fact of a people determining their future by means of a referendum.

Were we to see issues in a similar negative vein advanced in relation to Mr Cameron''''s referendum in the United Kingdom as to whether we should secede from the European Union we would be forgiven for thinking that the writer had a bad case of " the black dog" all doom and gloom and legitimately discounted the facetious nature of the arguments.

Fortunately the question of Scottish independence is a matter for the canny Scots themselves and no one else.
