UC Davis offers brewing programs for 2001.

The University Extension program at the University of California at Davis has announced an extensive line-up of brewing programs and courses for 2001. The university's Master Brewers Program is currently underway (January 8--June 5). This is a five-month program that prepares students to take the Institute of Brewing Associate Membership Examination.

A variety of other programs are scheduled to begin later in the year, including:

* Brewing Performance and Beer Quality: technological solutions for the global industry, February 19-23.

* Foundation Certificate Exam Preparation Program, March 5-June 11 and September 10-December 10. This is a "distance learning" certificate program for the Institute of Brewing. The Foundation Certificate is designed to recognize "fundamental knowledge and understanding of the principles of brewing and packaging operations."

* Intensive Brewing Science for Practical Brewing, June 18-22. According to the school, this short course is designed as an intensive introduction to the sciences of brewing. For more information, contact UC-Davis Extension at 800-752-0881, or check on the web at
