UAW-FORD OPEN CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER

DEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) and the UAW are reinforcing their commitment to education and quality with the opening of a world-class child development center.
The UAW-Ford Child Development Center resulted from a negotiated agreement in the 1990 contract talks. Jack Hall, vice president of employee relations, and Ernie Lofton, UAW vice president and director of the National Ford Department, are dedicating the new facility located at 38945 Ann Arbor Road, near I-275 in Livonia on Wednesday, Nov. 3, at 10 a.m.
"This child development center represents our desire and ability to work together to assist our employees with their child care responsibilities as well as our mutual commitment to quality," said Hall. "We insist that education and educational preparation be a distinguishing feature of this center."
The center offers professional child care combined with a Montessori educational opportunity for children and dependent grandchildren of active UAW-Ford workers.
"By emphasizing the personal development of each child as well as excellent care for workers' children, the UAW and Ford Motor Company are committed to providing the highest possible quality in this new child development facility," said Lofton. "The UAW is proud of our role in negotiating and jointly developing the new facility with Ford."
Children between the ages of six weeks and six years old are eligible for the educational child development program on both a full- time and part-time basis. After-school care is available for children six to twelve years old.
The center can accommodate 150 children Mondays through Fridays from 5:30 a.m. through 1 a.m. This is the first program of its kind for UAW-Ford workers.
