UAE puts the edge on international cuisine.

Summary: The UAE has officially become the Middle East's leader in international cuisine and is now on track to become the World's No. 1 by January 2010. The UAE has officially become the Middle East's leader in international cuisine and is now on track to become the World's No. 1 by January 2010. Juraj Kalna, Executive Chef of Dubai's most exclusive restaurant, The Edge Dining & Lounge, qualified to become the official representative for Africa and the Middle East at the Continental Semi-Finals of the WACS (World Association of Chefs Society) Global Chefs Challenge in Johannesburg, just two weeks ago - 29th July 2009.

Top culinary talents from 80 countries worldwide participate in what is currently the largest individual chef competition in the world, with only 7 finalists qualifying to compete for the coveted title of the World's Best Chef. Juraj Kalna, who has been hailed 'a genius' by the New York Times and holds a plethora of prestigious awards under his Chef whites, will compete in the finals which take place in Santiago de Chile in January 2010.

Dubai is now home to Slovakian born Kalna, who has built a stronghold of experience during his 30 years. His raw talent and natural drive insists that nothing but the highest of standards will be accepted from his 18-strong culinary team at The Edge Dining & Lounge, DIFC, Dubai. These standards are reflected throughout the entire establishment where service has been compared to 'being accustomed to royalty' and unique menus are created for each individual guest on arrival.

"This is my passion, therefore it is consistently my goal to give guests at The Edge the best culinary experience they have ever had, Kalna says: "I knew when joining The Edge that here were people who shared the same belief and fervor in providing the most exceptional cuisine, through the most exceptional service and in the most exceptional surroundings. Now to compete in the Global Chef Challenge final as the Africa and Middle East representative is an honour. I will be bringing the best of my experience to Chile and I have already begun preparation to ensure that I bring home the title of World's Best Chef."

The Global Chef Challenge final will present chefs with the task of creating a four course meal, to serve 12 people, with ingredients that will be decided slightly ahead of time. Chefs must meet the ingredient guidelines exactly and will be under strict time constraints for the completion of each course. However, with his raw gift and daily practice of fashioning world class, multiple course dishes, Juraj Kalna is prized with being one of the main contenders for the hugely prestigious world title. His win would mean an enormous leap in the eyes of the international gastronomic community regarding the level of culinary expertise here in the UAE, and more specifically Dubai, launching the region to one of the few titles it does not yet hold as one of the top 'foody' locations in the world!
