UAE - The Maktoum Sister.
Shaikh Ahmad al-Thani was toppled in February 1972 by his cousin Shaikh Khalifa bin Hamad al-Thani. At the time Shaikh Ahmad was in Iran on a hunting trip. He subsequently moved to live in Dubai, where he had built a palace. He died years later. But the conflict between the ruling families of Qatar and Dubai continued for years.
In June 1995, however, Shaikh Khalifa was toppled by his first son Hamad and the new ruler of Qatar began overtures to Dubai. Shaikh Muhammad bin Rashed gave him a signal that Dubai would buy large quantities of Qatari gas. Now Dubai is receiving Qatari gas through a deal with Dolphin Energy (DEL).
