UA Police Department Acquires New Segway HTs.

The Northwest Arkansas Times recently reported that the University of Arkansas Police Department (UAPD) has taken delivery of two new Segway Human Transporters (HTs) with the help of $10,000 in funding from the Wal-Mart & Sam's Club Foundation.

According to the newspaper, UAPD patrol lieutenant Mike Burrus noted that officers will employ the two-wheeled, battery-powered devices for situations in which standard police cruisers would not prove navigable.

"We'll still use our bikes, but the Segways allow an officer to stop and go," said Burrus.
