U.S. manufacturer wins ISO/TS 16949 certification. (Presstimenotes).

Clarion Technologies, Inc. has announced that it is the first manufacturer, both domestically and globally, known to receive complete ISO/TS 16949 certification for all of its facilities. Clarion operates manufacturing facilities in Michigan, Ohio and South Carolina and a technical design center in Jenison, MI. Each facility must be individually audited for ISO/TS 16949 certification.

ISO/TS 16949 is the new universal benchmark for quality in the industry, created to meet automotive manufacturers' requirements in both North America and Europe. The ISO/TS 16949 common automotive quality system requirement is based on ISO 9001: 1994, AVSQ (Italy), EAQF (France), QS-9000 (U.S.) and VDA 6.1 (Germany).

Bill Beckman, Clarion's president, comments: "We are extremely pleased to receive this certification with the distinction of being the first multi-facility manufacturer to be completely ISO/TS 16949 certified that we know of. It truly verifies our total commitment to quality and desire to be the supplier of choice for our customers, including those in the heavy truck, furniture, and consumer goods industries.

"We also expect to see some financial benefit from the ISO/TS 16949 on the bottom line too. Through the certification process, we identified and implemented ways to increase efficiency and reduce costs," adds Beckman.

David Tinsley, Quality Operating Systems manager for Clarion, says: "This certification is a major achievement for our company and a sign of our industry leadership, but it does not mark a stopping point. As an industry leader, we must continue to improve our business operations in order to better the products and services we offer our customers."

Entela Inc. conducted the ISO/TS 16949 audit for Clarion. Entela was the first of an anticipated 31 firms to be approved as registrars. Management Solutions Group, a Grand Rapids, MI-based consulting firm, assisted the Greenville facility in preparation for the audit.

Clarion Technologies, Inc. operates six manufacturing facilities and a technical design center with a total of approximately 700,000 square feet located in Michigan, Ohio and South Carolina. Clarion's manufacturing operations include 150 injection molding machines ranging in size from 50 to 5000 tons of clamping force. The company's headquarters are located in Holland, MI.
