U.S. SOFTWARE UNVEILS VIEWTASK! NEW SOFTWARE TOOL
LETS DESIGNERS EXPERIMENT WITH TASK SET DESIGN STRATEGIES
PORTLAND, Ore., July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. Software today announced the introduction of ViewTask!(TM), a PC-based environment that eliminates guesswork from the design and development of new embedded system products. With ViewTask!, designers are able for the first time to run a series of "what if" scenarios using various task sets, performance specifications and target processors to select the appropriate system for their application.
"Experimenting with system specifications after committing to a design is both expensive and time consuming," said Don Dunstan, president of U.S. Software. "We created ViewTask! to give designers an environment in which to work out bugs before making that commitment."
Using either a keyboard or a mouse, designers create a task set and define critical timing parameters in ViewTask!. They then choose a target processor from ViewTask!'s built-in library of today's most popular processors. This theoretical system can then be run and displayed visually on the PC monitor. Timing problems and other difficulties are easy to spot and are easily corrected by choosing a different processor or processor speed, or by altering other system parameters.
Once a system is performing to specification, ViewTask! documents task specifications, task-set timing analysis and task-set timing diagrams. ViewTask! even generates Borland- and Microsoft-compatible source C code for the multitasking design. This feature provides a code framework for prototyping applications using ViewTask! libraries in a PC environment.
The company is now taking orders for ViewTask!, which sells domestically for $495.
From headquarters in Portland, U.S. Software develops and markets software products and technology for the real-time embedded systems market. In addition to the ViewTask! product line, the company's comprehensive product offerings include MultiTask!(TM) real-time executives supporting 80x86, 68xxx, 68HC11, 68HC16, Z80/64180, 8051, 8096/196 and i960 microprocessors, and GOFAST(R) floating point application accelerators featuring link-and-go 80x86 C compiler support for Microsoft(R), Borland, Intel(R), WATCOM(R) and MetaWare(R) compilers.
